DOVER-CALAIS: SeaFrance staff back plan

Employees of troubled cross-Channel ferry operator SeaFrance voted almost unanimously in support of a restructuring and refinancing plan submitted by management to the European Commission. There was 94 per cent backing from a 79 per cent turnout among almost 900 staff, with Brussels now expected to allow SeaFrance’s SNCF parent to make a cash injection of €200 million, with the long-term aim of returning SeaFrance to the black by 2016.

SeaFrance continue to provide a four-ship Calais-Dover service with passenger/vehicle ferries SeaFrance Berlioz (2005/33,940gt), SeaFrance Rodin (2001/33,796gt) and SeaFrance Moliere (2002/30,258gt) and freight ferry SeaFrance Nord pas-de-Calais.
