NEW CRUISE SHIP: Costa’s latest launched in Venice

Costa Cruises’ new flagship was delivered by Fincantieri’s Marghera Shipyard in June. Costa Favolosa, the 15th vessel in Costa Cruises’ fleet, is 114,500gt and has a capacity of 3,800 guests making her the largest cruise ship flying the Italian flag.

About 3,000 Costa Cruises employees and 7,000 external workers contributed to the construction of the ship. The majority of the 500 companies involved in the shipbuilding activities were Italian and the total cost of the investment in the newbuilding undertaken by Costa Cruises is worth approximately €510 million.

According to Pier Luigi Foschi, Chairman and CEO of Costa Crociere, Costa Favolosa ‘is a wonderful ship, with incredible technological features’. He added, ‘Despite the worldwide economic situation, our expansion plan continues, with major investments in Italy, thanks to the strength of our brand, the quality of our product and customer satisfaction’. The new ship has a wellness area over 6,000m²; new suites with Jacuzzis and verandas; an Aqua Park for children; virtual reality experiences; Grand Prix and golf simulators; and a range of restaurants.

The ship left Venice on 4 July on her first voyage, a three-day mini-cruise, and during the summer she will sail eight-day cruises in the Eastern Mediterranean, moving in the winter to the Arab Emirates and Oman.
