CONTAINER SHIPS: Newbuild makes maiden call at Felixstowe

On 10 June a dual naming ceremony for two new container vessels was held at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Ulsan Shipyard in South Korea. The vessels, COSCO Glory and COSCO Pride, are the first of a new series of eight Ultra large Containers Carriers (ULCCs) under construction for the Canadian Seaspan Corp. They are the 11th and 12th of 18 vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to COSCON.

The new vessels, which measure 366m by 48.2m, are of the twin island superstructure design, which separates bridge and accommodation from the engine room and increases capacity in the bow by six per cent. COSCO Glory, with a capacity of 13,100TEU, made her maiden call at Felixstowe on 10 July.

The two vessels will be deployed on the COSCON CKYH Alliance Joint NE3 service, which calls at Rotterdam, Felixstowe, Hamburg, Antwerp, Yantian, Hong Kong, Tianjin, Xingang, Dalian and Qingda.
