BULKER: Beating the recession

Despite the global recession and its impact on ship employment, the bulker Cardinal is still finding full employment on the bulk tramp trades. In June she loaded a cargo at Corpus Christi in the USA destined for Gabes in Tunisia. She continued to trade round the world, and after her call in America went to the Saguenay River in Quebec, Canada for further cargoes.

Cardinal (pictured in Burrard Inlet, Vancouver) was built by the Oshima Shipyard in Japan in 2004 as Sibulk Tradition, a standard super handymax carrier with a capacity of 55,362 deadweight and a grain capacity of 69,872m3. She was renamed, first, Sea Wisdom, and Cardinal soon after.
