PORT NEWS: New era for Scottish harbour

On 10 August a new era dawned for the Scottish harbour of Kirkcaldy when the cargo vessel Danica Hav arrived with a trial shipment of grain and thus become the first commercial vessel to enter the harbour for over two decades.

The harbour has recently been upgraded so that Hutchisons Flour Mill can import wheat by sea. It will not only save the company money, but will also help reduce carbon emissions by removing almost 250,000 lorry miles from the roads.

Preparations for the shipping service that included the installation of silos and dredging to remove silt from the river bed. The 83m Danica Hav was built in 1984 and has carried many cargoes previously for Carrs.
