CUNARD: Dropping British flag

Cunard is to stop sailing under the British flag in order to allow weddings to be held. At present ships registered in the UK are not able to conduct marriages as English law states that weddings have to be conducted in a publicly accessible place.

Cunard’s three ships, Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth, will fly the flag of Bermuda and the port of Hamilton will replace the name of Southampton on the stern from spring 2012.

Peter Shanks, Cunard president, has said that the changes would not make any difference to the millions of pounds the ships generate for Southampton.
