TUI Discovery refurbishment moves to next stage

On 25 May 2016 TUI Discovery, the newest addition to the Thomson Cruises fleet, reached another milestone being moved into the wet dock as part of the next stage of her refurbishment process.

The ship is due to depart from Cadiz, Spain to Palma, Majorca on 5 June before embarking on her first itinerary around the Mediterranean on 11 June.

During the refit, TUI Discovery will have had a total of 20,000 litres of paint applied, 5km of wiring and five tonnes of IT equipment . 1,200 people have been working on board to carry out the renovation work over the past few weeks, including 40 people just to paint the ship, and 730 crew are currently undergoing training.

Measuring 264m (866ft) long by 32m (105ft) and 69,130gt, TUI Discovery is the largest ship to be welcomed into the Thomson Cruises fleet. The 1,830 capacity ship (double occupancy) boasts 915 cabins, nearly 40 per cent with balconies, and spans 11 decks.

The ship’s exterior features a dynamic wave design which accentuates the sleek hull profile and echoes the Thomson Airways aircraft livery which also uses a wave design. Guests will also be able to enjoy a rock-climbing wall, nine-hole mini golf course, indoor swimming pool, eight bars and lounges and multiple dining options.
