New kids on the block

All the new ships being delivered this year are sisters of single or multiple units already in service. Disney Fantasy follows Disney Dream (2011) and brings the Disney fleet up to four ships. Riviera is the second of two vessels ordered by Oceania, the first being Marina (2010). Carnival Breeze is the third of a trio, after Carnival Dream (2009) and Carnival Magic (2010), while AIDAmar is the sixth ship to be delivered to German operator AIDA in six consecutive years, with another sister scheduled for 2013.

The last three are slightly larger than the first four. Costa Fascinosa, together with her older sister Costa Favolosa (2011), will be the largest ships yet built by the Italian company. Rivals MSC also take delivery of their largest ship to date, MSC Divina, built to the same basic design, but slightly larger than the two Fantasia class ships. It is also rumoured that MSC will take the unnamed vessel of the same size and design, also under construction at STX France at St Nazaire, ordered and abandoned by Libyan company GNMTC. Lastly, Celebrity introduce Reflection, the fifth of the Solstice class series.
