Future of Scottish ferries

The Scottish Ferries Review, looking at long-term service needs, has been completed and the Scottish Government is seeking feedback from local communities who have until the end of March to comment on the plan. Transport minister, Keith Brown said: ‘As a Government we are determined and committed over the next decade to delivering on a progressive basis improved ferry services, and the draft Ferries Plan focuses on the things that we know matter to communities.’ Key options of the draft ferries plan include an upgrade of the Ardrossan-Brodick service to two vessels operating a more frequent service through to the late evening; extending the Colintraive-Rhubodach service to Bute through to midnight; later evening sailing to Cumbrae on one or two evenings each week; upgrade of the Oban-Craignure service to two vessels providing a more frequent service through to late evening; provide overnight berthing facilities allowing for an extended operating day for the Iona service from Fionnphort.
