DOVER STRAIT: Eurotunnel interest in SeaFrance trio

After reporting a 2011 trading profit up 40 per-cent to €247m, the Eurotunnel Group has repeated interest in buying three former SeaFrance vessels for operation between Calais and Dover.

In its annual report the group states: ‘Eurotunnel maintains its interest in the purchase of the three ex-SeaFrance ferries. The Group is organising the resources necessary to develop this new activity in line with its criteria for profitability and for the benefit of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.’

Shipbroker Parimar Franchart has been appointed to sell SeaFrance vessels SeaFrance Berlioz (2005/33,940gt), SeaFrance Rodin (2001/33,796gt) and freight ferry SeaFrance Nord Pas-de-Calais (1987/7,264gt), but SeaFrance Moliere (2002/30,285gt), which left Calais for a new lay-up berth at Dunkirk in late February, is understood still to be owned by a bank that financed purchase from SNCM in 2007.
