ANGELSEY: Boost to local economy

Anglesey is hoping for a boost of over £1m into its economy thanks to more cruise ships using the berthing facilities at Holyhead. Next Wednesday, the 25th April, will see Quest at Holyhead. This cruise ship will be the first of 18, six more than 2011. The cruise indstry is important to the Angelsey and North Wales economy with cruise passenger spend worth £1.2m to the region.

Quest might be the first to arrive, but the largest will be the enormous Caribbean Princess (pictured) at 290m in length. This cruise ship, in terms of passenger numbers, will be the biggest to dock in Wales with 3,600 passengers and a 1,200 strong crew during both her visits to Anglesey this summer.

The Holyhead jetty is owned and operated by Anglesey Aluminium. Working in partnership with Stena and Welsh Government, Anglesey Aluminium have provided new facilities on the jetty, which include a gift shop, information centre, disabled toilets, an internet centre and a dedicated stage and entertainment area.
