COMPANY NEWS: 50-year milestone for TT Line celebrated

TT-Line marked the 50th anniversary of services starting between Travemünde and Trelleborg, on 28 March 1962, by vessels flying flags throughout the last week of March and with later celebrations planned for passengers, freight customers and TT-Line staff.

Originally branded TT-Linie, the service was opened by the 850-passenger/145-car side-loading ferry Nils Holgersson, which was built in Hamburg at the Hanseatische Werft. Traffic grew to require a second larger vessel, Peter Pan, during 1965, with sistership, a second Nils Holgersson, appearing two years later.

These names have now been used for five pairs of Travemünde route vessels, the present combination of TT’s sixth Nils Holgersson and a fifth Peter Pan coming on stream in 2001 for a company now using a ‘More than just a ferry’ slogan. They offer 2,685 lane of vehicle capacity and accommodation for 740 passengers with 640 cabin berths.
