ROYAL CARIBBEAN: Alterations of the Seas

A number of Royal Caribbean ships are undergoing a variety of changes and upgrades. Rhapsody of the Seas has just completed a $54 million makeover at the Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore in the course of which a number of venues introduced on Oasis of the Seas have been incorporated. Additionally, the large sculpture that hung in the atrium has been removed to enable the space to be used for aerialperformances.

The Finnish-built pair of near sisters, Enchantment of the Seas and Grandeur of the Seas, will be similarly treated in December and May respectively. Splendour of the Seas received the same treatment in November 2011.

Serenade of the Seas will undergo a lesser transformation when she visits Cadiz in November for a $20 million refit. A standard feature that will be introduced across the fleet is the inclusion of iPads in all cabins.

In summer 2013 the 3,114-passenger Adventure of the Seas will join her larger (3,634-passenger) fleetmate, Independence of the Seas, cruising from Southampton. The latter ship will no longer cruise year-round from the UK, as she will be transferred to the Caribbean for the coming winter, but 2013 will be her fifth season operating from the South Coast port.
