Robb Caledon built vessel goes for recycling

On 5 February 2017 the 47-year-old livestock carrier Ahmad N berthed at plot 29 at Alang for recycling. The 1,148dwt vessel was one of the last vessels built by the Leith yard of Robb Caledon still operating.

She was built in 1970 for Elder Dempster Lines as vehicle carrier Speedway, later becoming Clearway. She was converted to a livestock carrier in 1984 and later traded as O’Shea Express.

The last trading vessel built at the Dundee yard of Robb Caledon is the 1979-built cement carrier Golden Bay, which trades in New Zealand because another vessel built by the Dundee yard in 1980, the former Polsteam mini-bulker Defne, was abandoned at Trabzon and offered for sale earlier this year.
