Port News: Busy time for Workington

Although Workington port lost its rail traffic a few years ago, it has gradually come back into favour and in early March had a very busy couple of weeks. The first arrival was CFL Perfect (2009/6,500dwt), with gypsum, followed by Cemsky (1990/4,566dwt) with liquid cement, the Norwegian live-fish carrier Viktoria Viking (2009/1,460dwt), and lastly the Cayman Island-flagged Stolt Kestrel (1992/5,742dwt) carrying bio fuel.

On 15 March the Swedish tanker Vinga Safir (2000/2,713dwt) departed with 2,500 tons of waste oil to the Baltic, while the Netherlands-flagged Nordic Diana (1996/4,180dwt) loaded bagged bales of waste to Latvia. The small cargo vessel Isis (1978/953dwt) put in an appearance on the log trade. Such a huge variety of cargo surely bodes well for this small port.
