PORT NEWS: Drogheda cruise call

Noble Caledonia’s Clipper Adventurer (1976/4,367gt) became the first ever cruise caller to Drogheda Port, where US and Canadian passengers disembarked after completing a ten-day fly-cruise circumnavigation cruise of Ireland on 14 May.

The cruise, organised by Adventure Canada in association with Royal Canadian Geographical Society, started in Cork instead of Waterford having been delayed due to bad weather while on a repositioning voyage from south and central America.

Onlookers lined the mouth of the Boyne as the vessel arrived at the Tom Roes Terminal, which usually handles containers and newsprint products. A reception was held on board to mark the historic occasion attended by Minister of State Fergus O’Dowd, Mayor of the Co Louth port and Drogheda Port Company officials. In addition, Clipper Adventurer welcomed Danish passengers to Drogheda at the start of a six-day fly-cruise via Dublin.
