CONTAINER SHIP: Costamare gets MISC twins

Costamare of Greece, a container shipowner that charters most of its tonnage out to other operators, has picked up two second-hand vessels from the Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (MISC), which has left the liner trades.

The 1998-built twins Bunga Raya Dua and Bunga Raya Satu, acquired for $24.9 million ‘en bloc’ and of 3,842TEU capacity each, will be used to replace two older vessels, the 1984-built Gifted (ex-Ever Gifted) and Genius I (ex-Ever Genius), each of 2,922TEU capacity, on their respective charters.

The latter ships, of 43,400dwt and originally operated by Evergreen, have been sold for demolition, while the former vessels, renamed Koroni and Kyparissia, have taken up the charter, plus an 18-month extension, at an average daily rate of $11,150.
