Chemical tanker: Concordia orders twins

Gothenburg, Sweden-based Concordia Maritime has signed a contract with China’s Guangzhou Shipbuilding International for two 50,000dwt chemical parcel tankers to be delivered in 2014/15. The twin ships, to cost around $40 million each, will be employed on the open market by Stena Weco, a joint venture formed a little over a year ago between Sweden’s Stena Bulk and Denmark’s Dannebrog.

The new vessels are part of a series of six tankers designed by Stena Weco and Stena Bulk, and developed by Stena Teknik together with Guangzhou Shipbuilding, that feature both energy efficiency and cargo flexibility.
