New Home For The Former HMS Tongham

The former Ham class minesweeper HMS Tongham has found a new home and is being prepared for a new role at Gillingham Pier in Kent. The minesweeper arrived at her new home in July and is moored alongside the historic paddle steamer Medway Queen.

HMS Tongham was one of 93 Ham class minesweepers and served in the Royal Navy between 1957 and 1980. She is one of just seven that still exist.

Owners Chris Beer and Janet Fischer are restoring the 1950’s warship. The ship will also be used as a venue as a vegan restaurant as well as rooms for yoga and three music teaching studios.
