ENGLISH CHANNEL: August start for My Ferry

My Ferry Link is the operating name for a new cross-Channel service using former SeaFrance vessels purchased by Eurotunnel, with Berlioz and Rodin each making four Calais-Dover return sailings a day following an anticipated start date around 20 August.

Rodin was the first to leave lay-up in Calais to proceed to the ARNO yard in Dunkirk on 9 July, with Berlioz following two days later and going straight into dry dock, the pair having been idle since SeaFrance ceased sailings in November 2011. Work begins later on freight ro-ro Nord Pas-de-Calais, already in Dunkirk, which is expected to join the passenger/vehicle vessels at some point during October.

Rumours about the future of the remaining former SeaFrance vessel Molière continue after reports of her sale to an un-named Maltese company. She left Dunkirk for Portland, sparking suggestions of an Olympic Games accommodation vessel role, but stayed only a few hours before returning up-Channel to Tilbury, arriving on 20 July to lay up close to P&O‘s sales listed Pride of Dover. The latest suggestions include a possible slot for DFDS between Calais and Dover and use in the Mediterranean on a service to Crete.
