CONTAINER SHIP: Solent debut for latest newbuild

The latest container ship newbuild made her debut at Southampton on 24 July. The 349m by 45.6m APL Salalah, like her sister vessel APL Southampton, is a 10,700TEU Gearless Cellular Container Vessel, built at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co Ltd, Okpo, South Korea and delivered on 22 June. The Singapore-flag 114,000gt vessel is employed on the Asia-Europe service.

APL Salalah is fitted with a ballast water treatment system and an electronically-controlled main engine, and it is claimed that she is the company’s most environmentally-friendly and fuel-efficient vessel.
