BULKERS: Graig takes new bulk carrier

Cardiff-based Graig Group has taken delivery of the 35,000dwt handysize bulk carrier Graig Cardiff from China’s Jiangdong Shipyard as the first of two Seahorse 35 class vessels being completed by the yard for Graig and its associates. The 180m by 30m newbuilding, which is powered by a MAN B&W 5S50MC-C engine giving a loaded service speed of 14 knots and a daily fuel consumption of 25 tonnes, is to be followed by sistership Graig Rotterdam later this year.

The Seahorse design features five flush double-skinned cargo holds with wide hatches served by four 30-tonne SWL wire-luffing cranes. To provide short turn-around times, cargo hold cleaning is accomplished by portable washing machines with outlets of water and compressed air arranged in all holds at tanktop level. In addition, a permanent washing water return line is arranged in each hold, with two washing water holding tanks for temporary storage, enabling cargo hold cleaning to be undertaken in sensitive and restricted areas.
