BUOY TENDER: Rolls-Royce tender design

India’s Directorate General of Lighthouses & Lightships (DGLL) has ordered a highly specialised 71.2m by 16m buoy tender from the country’s Cochin Shipyard for delivery in 2015. To be built to a Rolls-Royce UT 755S design, the new ship will incorporate an advanced Rolls-Royce power systems package that will include two 2,000kW main engines, twin CP propellers, automation systems, deck machinery and shaft generators.

Upon completion, the vessel will operate in remote waters off the east coast of India and around the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, maintaining and replacing navigational aids and buoys. The Cochin yard, which is owned by the Government of India, has previously built more than 20 Rolls-Royce-designed vessels.
