Canadian Coast Guard opts for new Wärtsilä engines

Finland’s Wärtsilä has been contracted to provide replacement diesel engines and integration engineering work on the Canadian Coast Guard’s 1100 Class High Endurance Multitask Vessel Ann Harvey, with the expectation that five additional ships of the series will also be refit.

In addition, a single engine will be provided to the Coast Guard’s college at Sydney, Nova Scotia for the training of future Coast Guard engineers and technicians.

The new engines, to be capable of operating in cold air conditions at full load, are expected to lead to reduced operational costs and lower emissions.
