CMV proud to be part of Windrush 70th Anniversary celebrations

Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV) is looking forward to Friday 22 June 2018 when the London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury celebrates the 70th Anniversary of the arrival of the SS Empire Windrush at the port back in 1948.

This landmark event in the history of modern Britain celebrates how 492 people men, women and children from the Caribbean were behind creating a vital part of British society and in transforming aspects of British life.

Thousands of CMV cruise passengers have departed on their holidays over the last ten years from Tilbury, as it is just 22 miles from the centre of London.

From CMV’s home port at Tilbury, the company has offered more than 400 different cruise departures on five different ships. Columbus, Magellan, Marco Polo, Astoria and Astor plus some 30 special Festive Events where guests have enjoyed lunches, or dinner with an overnight stay on board.

Mike Hall, Head of Marketing at CMV said: ‘This promises to be a great day and we are delighted with our ten years of operating from the port. Our operations have assisted the port to redevelop, bringing jobs and business opportunities to the area of Thurrock, together with a most convenient departure point for the people of Essex and the home counties. Passengers enjoy the history associated with the port and in particular the famous banner on display celebrating the arrival of SS Empire Windrush.’
