Multi-purpose: China Navigation newbuilds

The China Navigation Company (CNCo), founded at Shanghai in 1872 and part of the Swire group, is taking delivery of a new series of eight S Class multi-purpose vessels from China’s Zhejiang Ouhua Shipyard. The 31,000dwt fuel-efficient vessels have been specially designed to carry a wide range of cargos, including steel and forest products as well as agricultural commodities and heavylift items.

Four centreline-mounted MacGregor electric deck cranes can left 60 tons (swl) each, or 120 tons working in unison. A Wärtsilä RT Flex electronically controlled Tier-II main engine provides a service speed of 15.5 knots. Fuel and lube oil tanks are protected by a double skin and all ships are fitted with a ballast water treatment system. The eight ships will be deployed in Swire Shipping’s multipurpose liner trades linking North, East and South East Asia to markets in Australia and New Zealand. JS
