Boskalis to Transport Car Carrier to China for Repair

Friday & Co. Shipbrokers announced the successful brokerage of a major chartering deal between Dutch offshore engineering giant Boskalis and a Chinese charterer to transport the car carrier Floor (formerly Fremantle Highway) from the Netherlands to China.

This project involves transporting the fire-damaged vessel aboard Boskalis’ semi-submersible heavy lift flagship, Boka Vanguard, for repairs in Asia.

Fremantle Highway, en route from Bremerhaven to Singapore in 2023, caught fire in the North Sea but was saved and docked in Rotterdam. Declared a Constructive Total Loss (CTL) by insurers, the vessel underwent modifications in Rotterdam before its transport to China for refitting. Now renamed Floor, it is set for restoration and will re-enter service under new ownership by mid-2025.

This project, a first for Friday & Co Shipbrokers, was orchestrated by broker Justin Archard, who ensured thorough safety preparations and minimized risks. Loading was successfully completed in Rotterdam, with collaborative efforts among Boskalis and other partners.

In preparation for the journey to China, Boka Vanguard submerged to a depth of 24m over a 12-hour period, allowing Floor to be carefully manoeuvred onboard by tugboats and secured with custom-built supports. This delicate process was completed successfully, thanks to collaborative efforts among Boskalis and other key partners.
