BULKERS: More Münchmeyers

MPC Münchmeyers Steamship of Germany has ordered two 82,000dwt Kamsarmax bulk carriers from China’s Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industries for delivery in 2012 and 2013. The deal comes as Münchmeyers waits to see what will happen at the Seko Heavy Industries yard in South Korea, currently short listed for a creditor-led restructuring programme, where it has six 34,000dwt handysize bulk carriers on order.

In the meantime, it has sold four 3,200m3 capacity LPG carriers to UK-based Lomar Shipping. These include the 1995-built Auteuil and the 1990-built Cheltenham, Longchamp and Malvern, all recently chartered to Monaco-based MC Shipping.

Münchmeyers is one of Germany’s more modern shipping companies, but one with old roots. The present firm was established in 1999, but it can trace its history back to 1846, when Münchmeyer & Co was first formed at Hamburg. Today MPC Münchmeyers Steamship acts as the commercial manager for all chartering and sales requirements of the MPC Group, and manages 100 vessels.
