VETERAN COASTER: Oldest coaster trading?

On 25 September the veteran coaster Brake arrived at the port of Goole from Bremerhaven on what was her second visit to the Yorkshire port this year. This fine example of a coaster of yesteryear was completed by Petram Stahlwesserbau at Brake, Germany in 1957 as Marlies. As such she traded all around the UK and continent making many trips to Ireland until 1990 when she became Brake.

She is also, unusually, registered in Brake but because she is bare-boat chartered she flies the Tuvalu flag. The 817dwt vessel measures 58m by 9m and is one of the few remaining vessels of her type. At 54 years of age, is she the oldest coaster still trading?
