COSTA CRUISES: 16th ship launched

The 16th ship of Costa Cruises’ fleet entered the water for the first time on 29 July. Costa Fascinosa, the latest ship to join the fleet of Costa Cruises, touched the water for the first time during her technical launch ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera.

Once her interiors have been fitted out, the 3,800-passenger Costa Fascinosa (114,500gt) will depart on her first cruise on 2 May 2012. About 10,000 people are working on the ship, and most of the companies involved in the construction are Italian. Costa’s total investment to build Costa Fascinosa is about €510 million.

The launch ceremony was carried out with the godmother, Mirca Pizzato, an employee of Marghera shipyards, cutting the ribbon and breaking a bottle of champagne against the ship’s bow. The launch ended with the welding of a coin to the base of what was once the mainmast.
