Disney Cruise Line’s new Disney Fantasy, under construction at the German shipyard of Meyer Werft, Papenburg, was damaged through vandalism, and repairs have cost more than €1 million. Although this was serious, it did not impact on the ship’s float-out from the dock on 8 January. On 9 December fire-extinguishing valves were opened on various decks at different times, resulting in damage to 48 nearly-completed cabins. The local authorities believe this vandalism was carried out by a shipyard worker, although with around 5,000 involved this has been difficult to confirm.Disney Fantasy makes her debut at the end of March, completing the order for two 128,000gt 2,500-passenger ships. She is scheduled to operate weekly cruises to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, while her sister, Disney Dream, introduced in January 2011, sails on short cruises to the Bahamas.
