Ellerman City Liners is back in shipping

A big name in shipping from the past, Ellerman, has risen again. In September 2021 brokers were reporting the German-owned 2,456TEU capacity container ship Buxhansa as being chartered by Ellerman City Liners for a minimum period of 36 months.

After calling at Ningbo and Dachan Bay in early December 2021, she set sail from China for Tilbury, her only port of call in Europe, where she arrived in early January.

She has been joined by the 2,708TEU-capacity Cape Hellas, which was completed in December 2021.

Ellerman City Lines’ name was incorporated in June 2021, and is linked to Essex-based UniServe, whose UniOcean Lines is used for marketing the shipping and freight services.

The original Ellerman brand, synonymous with vessels named ‘City of’, disappeared in 2004.
