Fincantieri delivers Viking Vela

Fincantieri has announced the delivery of the new Viking Vela, marking a significant milestone in its collaboration with Viking. The handover took place at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard on Tuesday 3 December. 

Viking Vela is a small-sized cruise ship with a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons. It features 499 cabins, accommodating up to 998 passengers. This new vessel is an enhanced version of Viking’s earlier ocean-going ships, which were designed for 930 guests. 

This delivery brings the total number of ships delivered by Fincantieri to Viking to 13, including two expedition vessels constructed by Fincantieri’s subsidiary, Vard.

Viking Vela is the first in a new series of cruise ships for Viking, reflecting the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. 

Fincantieri highlighted that Viking Vela was built in full compliance with the latest environmental regulations. The vessel features state-of-the-art engines and systems designed to minimize exhaust emissions, aligning with the industry’s most rigorous environmental standards.

The partnership between Fincantieri and Viking continues to grow, supported by additional orders and recently signed contracts. This collaboration now encompasses a total of 26 ships, cementing the relationship as one of the most significant in the cruise industry. 

Fincantieri expressed pride in its enduring relationship with Viking, which has resulted in some of the industry’s most advanced and environmentally friendly cruise ships.
