NCL: First and only call

NCL’s latest ship, Norwegian Breakaway (see SM, July), made her first and, for the foreseeable future, only call in Southampton in April, arriving at the City Cruise Terminal on the morning of 29 April and sailing the following afternoon for New York, where she became the largest ship ever to have been home-ported there year-round.

Her naming ceremony at Manhattan’s Pier 88 on 8 May was performed by the Radio City Music Hall precision dance company, The Rockettes, following which the ship sailed on the first of her season of seven-night cruises to Bermuda. From October Norwegian Breakaway will switch to a programme of cruises to the Bahamas, returning to her Bermuda run in May 2014.
