First uncrewed surface vessel Reach Remote 1 delivered

Norway’s Reach Subsea has taken delivery of its first uncrewed surface vessel (USV), Reach Remote 1, marking the completion of technical installations, testing and documentation.

According to Reach Subsea, the company completed the final handover on 16 January 2025, together with Kongsberg Maritime and Trosvik AS.

Reach Remote 1, a 24m USV, is equipped with hull-mounted survey sensors and a work-class electric remotely operated vehicle (ROV). It represents a new approach to subsea operations, offering efficiency, safety and sustainability, including a targeted 90 per cent reduction in emissions compared to traditional crewed vessels, the company noted.

In March 2024 Reach Subsea sea-launched the first unit of its Reach Remote fleet of USVs, which would, according to the company, “revolutionise offshore subsea operations, aligning with sustainability initiatives”.

Reach Remote 1 is the product off a collaboration between Kongsberg Maritime, Reach SubseaASA, Massterly, and Trosvik Maritime.Kongsberg Maritime served as the prime contractor for the turnkey project, taking responsibility for vessel design, yard delivery, supply chain management, systems integration, and commissioning.

The vessel is full of cutting-edge Kongsberg technology. Its initial mission will be to conduct underwater surveys off the coast of Haugesund, but its potential applications extend far beyond this.

A second vessel, Reach Remote 2 is set to begin sea trials soon, with delivery to follow shortly after.
