Golden Ocean expands bulk fleet

Bermuda-headquartered Golden Ocean Group, currently ranked as the world’s largest publicly listed dry bulk company in terms of deadweight tonnage, has taken delivery of the 84,700dwt bulk carrier Golden John (48,500gt) from China’s DSIC Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry.

The 227.2m by 36m 14-knot Ice Class IC vessel, registered under the Marshall Islands flag, meets IMO Tier III emission standards and has a carrying capacity of 105,000m3 in seven cargo holds.

The new ship’s delivery follows the acquisition of six 208,000dwt second-hand Newcastlemax vessels by Golden Ocean for $291 million earlier this year. Golden Ocean was created as a de-merged part of Norway’s Frontline group in 2004 and its fleet of 100 vessels is managed by Golden Ocean Group Management AS. JS
