Heavylifters: Rolldock series completed

Germany’s Flensburger-Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) has handed over Rolldock Star, the third of four specialised ro-ro semi-submersible heavylift ships it is building for Dutch owner RollDock BV. The new 12,800gt vessels have been designed to carry very demanding cargo and heavy project loads and thusoffer a wide range of different loading possibilities. Two side-mounted cranes can move cargo weighing up to 700 tons in unison, while an adjustable stern ramp can be used for the roll-on/roll-off loading and discharge of individual cargoes weighing up to 3,000 tons. In addition, the ship can be submerged by more than 12m to permit cargo to be floated in or out over the stern. The fourth of the heavylifters, Rolldock Storm, is expected to be delivered by FSG to Rolldock in May. JS
