Hovertravel Celebrates 60 Years of Service

Hovertravel, the world’s longest-running commercial hovercraft service, is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2025.

As part of the milestone celebrations, Hovertravel is launching a special campaign to collect memories from customers who have travelled with the service over the past six decades.

Since its first flight in 1965, Hovertravel has been a link between the Isle of Wight and the mainland, carrying millions of passengers on their journeys.

To mark this historic occasion, Hovertravel is inviting customers to share their memories, photos, and stories of their experiences aboard the hovercraft.

These will be incorporated into new displays on the hoardings for the Coastal Defence Project beside Hovertravel’s Southsea terminal, as well as featured on the company’s social media platforms.

Customers can submit their memories via email at info@hovertravel.com, through Hovertravel’s social media pages, or, recognising that some photos or words might be on paper, by post to Hovertravel Limited, Quay Road, Ryde, Isle of Wight, PO33 2HB

In addition to the memory campaign, Hovertravel is planning a series of special anniversary activities throughout the year, soon to be announced, to celebrate the milestone with customers and the community.

Additionally, a range of limited edition souvenirs featuring the 60th anniversary logo will be available for purchase, allowing fans of Hovertravel to take home a piece of its history.

Hovertravel provides the fastest ferry service between Portsmouth (Southsea) and the Isle of Wight (Ryde), operating the world’s only year-round passenger hovercraft service with crossings taking just 10 minutes.
