Indian Naval ship INS Tabar welcomed to London

London’s Tower Bridge became a site of celebration, as members of the Indian community in Lodnon chanted ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ with a sense of pride as the naval ship INS Tabar arrived in London on 8 August 2024.

The Indian Navy’s frontline frigate, INS Tabar was met with cheers and a sense of pride, as the cultural heritage of India merged with the historic landmarks of London.

A member of the Indian community said: “It is a proudest moment for all the Indians living here. Everyone cheered after seeing the Indian flag and the Indian ship. It was a precious moment for all of us.”

The Talwar class frigate Tabar is visiting London from 7 to 11 August, and was berthed alongside HMS Belfast.

The event at Tower Bridge will be remembered as a symbol of cultural exchange, community spirit, and the enduring ties between India and the UK.

During the return leg from St Petersburg, Russia, INS Tabar conducted a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) with the German Navy off Kiel Canal on 8 August. Earlier the vessel had visited Hamburg, Germany 17-20 July.

Tabar was commissioned on 19 April 2004 and recently she has conducted world tours, calling at a variety of ports. This year she has been to Egypt and Morocco as well as Europe.
