In December 2012 the platform support vessel MPI Discovery (2011/ 19,533gt) completed the installation of 101 of the 175 turbines at the London Array wind farm, in what was an offshore wind farm installation record. All 175 turbines have now been put in place, and the first phase of the world’s largest offshore wind farm, which is situated off the Kent coast, was completed with the installation ofthe 175th turbine.

London Array, the £2billion project in the Thames Estuary, off Ramsgate, has been supplying power to the National Grid since October. The project has injected an estimated £15 million into the east Kent economy. MPI Discovery, and her sistership MPI Adventure, is operated by MPI Offshore and was purpose built for installing offshore wind turbines.
