IRELAND FERRIES: Last minute reprieve for Donegal ferry

There was uncertainty as to whether the summer-only Lough Swilly ferry service between Rathmullen and Buncrana would operate this season. At the last minute funding was made available through Donegal County Council, and Jim McClenaghan, managing director of the Lough Foyle Ferry Company which operates the service, quickly arranged for Foyle Rambler to be dry-docked at Troon in readiness to re-open the service.

Further round Ireland’s coast at Strangford Lough, Strangford Ferry, the relief vessel on the Strangford-Portaferry service in Co Down,Northern Ireland, has been out of service since it was discovered that the ramps need replacing. She has been taken across to Belfast for the remedial work to be undertaken. The first vessel, Portaferry II, has been maintaining the service on this busy link across the entrance to the picturesque Strangford Lough. BM
