James Fisher and Sons plc has placed an order for four advanced vessels from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng Co Ltd. The new tankers will transport oil products and IMO Class II chemicals, and incorporate LNG dual fuel propulsion to minimise their operational CO2 emissions and environmental impact in the long run.
These ships will feature several sustainable design elements adopted from recent fleet additions, Sir John Fisher and Lady Maria Fisher. These enhancements include an optimised hull form, waste heat recovery through cooling water and exhaust gas, 100 percent LED lighting, and environmentally controlled engine room fans.
Additionally, the vessels will incorporate further energy efficiency measures to improve their sustainability, particularly to reduce emissions while in port. Steel cutting commenced in November 2024, with the first tanker scheduled for delivery by the end of 2025. These new vessels are integral to the company’s future strategy, aimed at enhancing service offerings and operational efficiency.
James Fisher has also expanded its fleet with the acquisition of the 34,725-dwt chemical/products tanker Lagavulin, which has been renamed Leander Fisher. Previously owned by Singaporean-based Pioneer Tanker, the ship, which was originally ordered by the now-defunct Ocean Tankers in 2015, was delivered in 2022.
