NEW FISHING VESSEL: Largest longliner

One of the world’s largest commercial longliner fishing vessels, Northern Leader, designed by Seattle-based Jensen Maritime Consultants, had her main deck completed ahead of schedule, only ten weeks into the construction phase. This environmentally friendly longliner, owned by Alaskan Leader Fisheries LLC, will work in the Alaskan offshore fishing fleet when completed.

Measuring 184ft by 42ft by 18.75ft, she will support the longline fisheries of the North Pacific, Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands. She will be powered by two Schottel Z-Drive rudder propellers, of 1,000kW each, and one Schottel tunnel thruster of 300kW. She will have one of the largest freezer hold capacities of any longliner and is scheduled to be delivered in April 2013, to be homeported in Kodiak, Alaska.
