LNG carrier Coral Medusa completes repairs at Harlingen

The gas carrier Coral Medusa, owned and operated by the Anthony Veder Group, has completed her intermediate survey at Damen Shiprepair Harlingen. The intermediate survey was scheduled and executed while the ship was under gas vapours from her last cargo.

Damen Shiprepair & Conversion was able to offer three locations, Flushing, Schiedam and Harlingen, that are certified to repair gas tankers which are not gas-free. Harlingen had immediate availability so Coral Medusa docked on 19 July 2016.

In addition to the survey, repairs were undertaken on the Van der Velden Marine Systems rudder, hub, and propeller shaft. The liners of the tail shaft were also replaced and while in dock the vessel took the opportunity to have its corporate livery repainted.

The work was undertaken within two weeks, thanks to the rapid response of the team at the Damen group subsidiary Van der Velden Marine Systems and to the fact that Damen Shiprepair & Conversion has a number of yards equipped to support gas tankers with cargo onboard.

The Rotterdam-based Anthony Veder Group has been in business for nearly 80 years and specialises in the operation of gas carriers. Its 30-strong fleet is capable of carrying a range of products.

Coral Medusa is a 4000 CBM semi pressurised / fully refrigerated gas carrier, 118m in length.  She carries LPG and operates in the waters of north west Europe.

Remko Kloos, Manager HR (marine) at Anthony Veder Group, commented: “We were very happy with the cooperation shown by the Damen team, both with the vessel manager and the crew. Even though it was the summer holidays they showed a great work ethos and when some technical problems arose they were very keen to help solve them. This was our first experience with Damen Shiprepair Harlingen, and we are very impressed.”
