The modern general cargo ship Eemslift Hendrika (2015/5,460gt) made a maiden call at Poole on 25 May 2017 to unload two yachts using its deck cranes, mooring alongside ro-ro berth 3 as Ballast Quay was occupied by Douwe-S (2011/2,862gt) discharging roadstone from Belfast.
The 112m Dutch-flagged vessel is operated by Amasus Shipping and had arrived from Workington at 10.00 before departing for Rotterdam at 14.00 that afternoon.
This was a fairly unusual shipment as it is more common for yachts built at the adjacent Sunseeker shipyard to be exported through Poole.
With the completion of Poole Harbour Commissioners’ new 200m £10million South Quay at the end of the year, it is anticipated that the vast majority of Poole-built Sunseeker yachts will be exported through the port instead of travelling by road to be shipped out from Southampton.
