MAIDEN CALLER: First time at Liverpool

The newly-built container vessel Independent Voyager (39,268dwt, below) made her maiden call at Liverpool on 4 June, having left Antwerp three days earlier. On arrival in Liverpool she was paraded past Pier Head with tugs saluting her with water cannon before she entered Seaforth Dock to load. She is on a two-year charter with the Independent Container Line (ICL), USA, which was arranged by Peter Dohle Schiffahrts.

Built in 2010, the type CS 2800 container ship was formally named at a ceremony on 27 May. The vessel was named Hammonia Baltica, having been ordered by the Hamburg based company Hammonia Reederei, but when chartered she was renamed. Measuring 225m by 29.8m, she has a container capacity of 2,798TEU
