Mein Schiff 7 named in Kiel

Mein Schiff 7 was delivered by Meyer Turku to TUI Cruises on 10 June 2024 and was christened on 22 June in Kiel by godmother Fenia Kalachani, an environmental officer on board the Mein Schiff fleet since 2020.

Shortly after sunset, Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, opened the official ceremony on the pool deck to mark the naming of the latest addition to the TUI fleet. The event ended with a drone show and fireworks, showcasing the ship against the backdrop of Kiel.

‘The christening of Mein Schiff 7 is a very special celebration for TUI Cruises – the first since 2019 and is a wonderful moment for the guests, the crew and also personally for me,’ said Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises.

At 111,500gt, the 315m vessel has been fitted with cutting-edge technology to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions and is also equipped with methanol capability and a shore power connection.

She is the seventh ship Meyer Turku has built for TUI Cruises, but the first in the Mein Schiff fleet to run exclusively on low-emission marine diesel (with maximum sulfur content of 0.1%).

The 2,894-passenger ship is also capable of running on methanol which, with the green methanol of the future, will make its propulsion power almost carbon-neutral.

Throughout the summer, Mein Schiff 7 will sail eight- to 17-day voyages between Kiel and Norway before the itinerary switches in mid-August for eight- to ten-day Baltic Sea cruises from and to Warnemünde.

In winter 2024/25, the youngest member of the fleet will spend the majority of the season in the Canary Islands with cruises starting and finished in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria.

Mein Schiff 7’s symbolic start of production, the steel-cutting ceremony, took place at the shipyard on 14 June 2022, and she was delivered to TUI Cruises  less than two years later.
