New cruise ship Celebrity Ascent officially joins the Celebrity Cruises fleet

On 7 November 2023 Celebrity Ascent officially joined the Celebrity Cruises fleet during a delivery ceremony at Chantiers de l’Atlantique (Saint-Nazaire, France).

She is the fourth ship in the Edge series and will cross the Atlantic to make her cruise debut.

Departing from Fort Lauderdale, Celebrity Ascent’s inaugural voyage will begin on 3 December and will take passengers to Saint-Martin, Saint-Thomas and the Dominican Republic during a seven-night cruise.

The delivery ceremony was held in the presence of a number of dignitaries, including Olivier Becht, Minister Delegate to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs; Jason Liberty , President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group; Laura Hodges Bethge, President of Celebrity Cruises; Laurent Castaing, Managing Director of Chantiers de l’Atlantique as well as the operational teams of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean Group.

Dimitrios and Tasos Kafetzis, the first brothers to be named co-captains of an ocean liner, had the honour of taking possession of the ship in front of 1,400 Celebrity Ascent crew members, also present at the ceremony.

The traditional signing and changing of flags ceremonies, which took place on board the ship, were followed by a toast in the Grand Plaza.

Celebrity Ascent joins the other ships in the Edge series. She is the sister ship of Celebrity Beyond, which was launched last year.
