Norwegian CL: Norwegian’s biggest two

The names for the two ships being built for NCL by Meyer at Papenburg, Germany have been announced as Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss. The ships will be delivered in late 2015 and early 2017 and with a gross tonnage of 163,000 will be Norwegian Cruise Line’s largest vessels to date. They will also be thelargest cruise ships to be built byMeyer Werft.

At a contract price of $919 million each, they will be more expensive than the slightly smaller Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway, with their $780 million price tags. The latter ship will debut in January, with a one-night cruise from Rotterdam to Southampton, before she heads to Miami, Florida to be named on 7 February by the Miami Dolphins football team’s cheerleaders. She will then be based in Miami for year-round Caribbean cruising.
