Norway’s Atlantic Offshore is having two of its offshore supply vessels, Ocean Star and Ocean Art, converted to hybrid propulsion by compatriot engineering firm Fitjar using Wärtsilä supplied technology.

Each ship will receive a 746kWh battery pack, which will be integrated with the vessels’ existing Wärtsilä control systems to reduce environmental impact and give more economical fuel consumption.

The environmentally friendly hybrid package is also expected to make the OSVs more attractive to potential charterers. JS
